This session will explore ways to increase engagement and participation in the high school English classroom as students undertake reading and writing assignments that matter to them. We will explore ways of creating a classroom culture where students are "involved in authentic application of their knowledge and skills" through thought-provoking and real-world lessons, text selections, and activities (Instructional Protocol). The presenter will reflect on his experiences as a teacher in the Early College Program.
